How to make spicy Beef Jerky?

Making beef jerky used to be such an arduous task. Something that required expert care and preparation. Something that used to be a time consuming chore. Thankfully, we don’t live in those ancient times any longer. We live in the age of food dehydrators. A time when a special skill that used to be passed between generations can be achieved with ease, thanks to a single machine and a simple recipe. What a time to be alive!

Nowadays, even making a spicy beef jerky isn’t that big of a deal. The once tedious process has been replaced by options so easy, the jerky practically makes itself. At this point, it will take you mere 5 steps to enjoy a healthy stack of homemade jerky with your friends and dinner guests. You just have to know the right jerky recipe to pull it off.

Fortunately, you’ve come to the right place. We have a jerky recipe so tasty that you’ll never even consider going back to store bought jerky again. Granted, this isn’t the only way to make jerky. Feel free to experiment and make your own personal brand of jerky by changing the seasoning sauce or salts to enjoy different jerkies at different times. However, to get you started on your great jerky journey, follow the steps below.

Spicy Beef Jerky

Ingredients

2 lbs Flank of beef

1 tsp Onion powder

1 tsp Garlic Powder

1 tsp Red pepper flakes

1 tsp Smoked paprika

2 tsp Fresh ground black pepper

1 tsp Raw honey

2/3 cup Worcestershire Sauce

2/3 cup Soy Sauce

Directions

1The first step is all too critical, and not something that should be ignored. It involves carefully selecting the right piece of beef that will cut easily. You’ll need to ensure that you can easily slice thin pieces to guarantee that the jerky will dry easily and evenly. The flanks must also be lean because excess fat will increase the risk of your jerky getting spoiled or going rancid. That’s not exactly ideal. So, use an especially sharp knife to cut or trim the beef. Then remove the excess layers of fat in the flanks. Ensure that both sides of the flank are completely free of excess fat. Only then should you thinly slice the flank in the direction that runs across the beef fibres. This will help ensure that the jerky is easier to chew on. Yet another important tip that’s all too easy to forget in giddy excitement of a jerky session.

2Make the spicy seasoning by mixing all ingredients listed above thoroughly.

3Pour all the seasoning on your jerky. To ensure a proper and thorough seasoning, make an effort to rub the seasoning into the beef. Then pack the marinade and beef into an airtight plastic bag and place it in freezer for 1 hour. This will allow the seasoning to get deeply absorbed into the beef before you start the dehydration process.

4Remove the jerky from the airtight plastic and shake it over a sink to remove any excess marinade material (which would otherwise cause a serious mess in your dehydrator). Then carefully lay the strips of meat on to each layer of your dehydrator. Make sure to avoid any overlapping between the meat slices to promote an even dehydration. Then set the temperature to 155° F and let the meat sit in the dehydrator or 4-6 hours so that it will dry properly. Check in frequently and only remove the jerky when it is completely dry.

5After that, feel free to pile all of your delicious jerky on a plate and dish it out to your hungry guests. When the feast is finished, store the rest of your jerky in the fridge to keep it cool, or at room temperature depending on your personal preference. The key to extending any jerky’s shelf life is to keep it away from moisture. The storing temperature doesn’t matter nearly as much with jerky as it does with fresh meat.

That’s all there is to it! It might sound difficult or intimidating to make your own beef jerky at home, but the truth of the matter is that it’s actually a rather simple process if you own a food dehydrator. Sure, the dehydration time is long, but the actual preparation will take mere minutes. So, what are you waiting for?! Try out our easy-peasy beef jerky recipe today and enjoy the delicious delights of homemade jerky. But don’t stop there! Feel free to experiment with your own spices and marinades. The flavour possibilities are almost endless and the limit is only that of your imagination.

I make jerky weekly, have gone through many, many recipes looking for that ‘one’ I like enough to repeat time and again. We all have our own taste for something. All I can say is, I found mine, this is it.
