Excalibur 3926TB
Shifting from my small nuclear family to the large extended family of my hubby after marriage was filled with a number of surprises. One of these included the necessity to provide large amounts of fruits and meats to the family when they were not available in the market anymore. My older and smaller dehydrator not being up to the task, I chose the Excalibur 3926TB after carefully going through food dehydrator reviews on a number of sites. As my new family will testify, I’ve managed to live up to their culinary expectations. Buoyed by their praise, I decided that I would give credit where it’s due ie to this amazing product via a detailed review listing both positives and negatives.

Excalibur 3926TB Review

Large Space With Sufficient Tray Quantity
Given that I sometimes had to dry huge quantities of beef jerky or salmon, I was relieved to find that the Excalibur 3926TB came with 15 square feet of drying space. Contributing to this marvellously large drying area were 9 trays that came gratis with the product. These trays could be operated in tandem, or one or more removed to make space for larger foods, without there being any reduction or excess concentration of heating power.

Special Polyscreen tray insert
Fruits in particular can be very sticky, and Excalibur has foreseen this hindrance. To this end, it provides the product with a polyscreen tray insert that keeps the foods from sticking to the tray and hindering the overall drying of the foods. This screen is easily removable, and given that it is not made of metal, we did not have any problems removing it just minutes after the completion of one round of dehydration.

Excellent Controls
Unlike many box and shelf type dehydrators, the Excalibur 3926TB comes with a simple knob for choosing the temperature. Located at the back, it does not interfere with the handling of the product. The on/off switch, in our experience, is an equally easy to operate knob that sites beside the temperature control knob. Both are highly responsive and do not suffer damage even when extensively used.

Adjustable thermostat with 26 hour timer
Made using Excalibur’s patented technology, the thermostat is adjustable to a high degree. Indeed, it can handle up to 26 hour work-cycles, adjusting its heat output according to the present stage of dehydration during each of the stages involved in the average drying cycle. In my experience, this feature can be used to catch a good night’s sleep without having to worry about the beef jerkys becoming hardened pieces of leather.

One small flaw
My family is large, and so this product works well. However, when I tried to dry out smaller portions, I found that the heating mechanism either heated the foods too much, or led to uneven heating. Hence, if you are living along, I would not suggest buying this large-scale food dehydration product.

Warranty : 10 year limited warranty
Conclusion
With my reputation as a good cook at stake, I had gone through food dehydrator reviews and hence knew of the minor fault that this product had. The reason I still went with it was that it managed to dry foods quickly and in large amounts without sacrificing simplicity of use. In case you too have large amounts of food to dry out and the space required to keep a box and shelf dehydrator, I believe this product can do wonders to your current and future diet.

I’ve been using my old Excalibur dehydrator for more than 30 years, and I recently purchased my second model. I knew I wanted to go with Excalibur again because of the great performance of my older model. I also appreciate the company’s 10 year warranty.

This new model has a lot of features and options that my old dehydrator didn’t have, so it’s taken me a little while to get used to it. However, I’m really enjoying the new features now. I love the timer since I don’t have to check the food over and over to see if it’s done or worry about forgetting it. I also appreciate the wide range of temperatures since I can customize the temperature based on what I am dehydrating.

As soon as my new Excalibur dehydrator arrived, I started putting it to work! I’ve dried everything from salmon to assorted fruits over the last couple of weeks, and everything has been delicious. The dehydrator works great even when you are keeping it busy with back to back batches.

Few things are more disappointing than a company that will not stand behind its products. When I purchased this Excalibur dehydrator, I didn’t think that I was going to have to worry about that, since the company promises a 10 year warranty. I used my dehydrator every now and then during my first two years of ownership, mostly to dry fruit and make kale chips.

After not more than 10 uses, the fan stopped working. This was an inconvenience, but I was not too concerned because of the warranty. However, Excalibur really dropped the ball on making this right. They promise free replacement pieces, but they jack up the shipping prices incredibly high to make up for it. For instance, they wanted to charge me more than $60 just to mail me the new part for my dehydrator! After I complained and haggled back and forth with them, they lowered the price to $30, but this is still way too high for a small part that would qualify for flat-rate shipping in the United States.

I’m glad that my dehydrator is working again now, but this will be my last Excalibur purchase.

My husband and I are committed to serving natural, whole foods to our family. We are thrilled with our CSA membership, but we can’t always use all of the produce that we receive each week. We decided to invest in a dehydrator, and we did a lot of research before deciding on this Excalibur model. Ultimately, we chose it because of its large capacity and the company’s good reputation.

Positives:
The shut-off timer is one of my favorite features on this unit. It always seems like I’m doing a 100 things at once, so I love not having to remember to turn off my dehydrator when I’m busy with other things. I also appreciate the generous amount of tray space, the adjustable temperature settings, and how easy the machine is to set up and use.

Negatives:
Although we’re enjoying our Excalibur dehydrator, the machine isn’t perfect. The machine is large and it is loud. We solve these issues by dehydrating in the basement. In addition, the fan can blow herbs around once they start to get dry. To remedy this, I recommend leaving your herbs on their stems while dehydrating.

Overall, I can happily recommend this unit. We are able to recoup some of the cost for our dehydrator because we are using up more of our produce now instead of watching it go to waste.

I love making homemade granola, and I am so glad that I purchased this dehydrator. My task is so much easier now! I used to make granola in a basic round dehydrator, so this is a welcome upgrade. The air flow is great, and I love being to adjust the temperature. My old dehydrator didn’t have a timer, either, so this one is so much more convenient.
